Make the best yogurt, with minimal effort, a few ingredients, right in your own home! Using an Instant Pot, you can ditch store bought yogurt! Let me show you how.

Why should you make yogurt at home?
Right now the grocery store aisles and shelves have been a bit unpredictable. Many a time the shelves have few choices and the choices available really aren’t that great.
We feed our family the best food we can afford. That’s not to say that we always purchase the most expensive or the most popular brands. We often look for ways to make the same products we normally purchase at the store, at home. Yogurt is one of those amazing foods that we chose to make at home. Let me show you how!

Is making yogurt at home hard?
Nope! We can make yogurt at home with only a few ingredients in a mostly hands-off process. Homemade yogurt does require a bit more time than a standard recipe therefore due to fermentation, you will need approimately 32-48 hours.
What do I need to get started?
Making yogurt is so simple. Forget all those preservatives and additives in store bought brands. All you need is:
- 1 gallon milk (we use raw A2A2 cows milk)
- 2.5-3 Tbsp gelatin
- Yogurt culture or 3 Tbsp already made Greek Yogurt (can be store bought)
- Instant Pot
That’s it!! Pretty cool huh!

For the very first recipe, use store bought yogurt or a yogurt starter. Azure Standard has great options if you haven’t ever purchased one before. You can start an account with them here. After you have made yogurt the first time, be sure to save some of the culture for your next batch. Making yogurt weekly or biweekly will keep this amazing superfood in supply for your household.

Lets make homemade yogurt!
To start, measure out and pour two cups of milk into the Instant Pot. You can then choose the Sauté function or press the Yogurt button twice (depending on your model). This model works great!
Let the milk heat up. Once heated, sprinkle the 2.5-3.0 Tbsp gelatin over the milk and whish together until fully combined. If you prefer a thicker yogurt, use 3 Tbsp. If you prefer a looser yogurt, use 2.5 Tbsp.
After you combine the milk and gelatin, pour the remaining milk into the Instant Pot.
Close the lid with the vent closed. Hit “Yogurt” on your Instant Pot and set the timer for 8-24 hours. This time range is to let the milk ferment. Adjust the time based on the preferred taste. The longer the ferment, the tangier the yogurt will be.
When the timer has ended, skim the cream off the top or stir in depending on preferred taste. For Greek Yogurt consistency, strain the yogurt through cheesecloth to separate the whey. (Keep the whey in a jar for smoothies or added protein to other dishes)
After fermenting in the Instant Pot, the yogurt is complete. Storing the yogurt in half gallon Mason jars will keep it fresh and ready for you to enjoy.
